Eating Disorders And The Use Of Yoga In Prevention And Treatment

Eating Disorders And The Use Of Yoga In Prevention And Treatment
By: Roy Thomsitt

It was not so long ago that eating disorders, such as bulimia and anorexia, were thought to be purely the result of mental conditions. More recently, though, some physical factors have been attributed to these conditions. It is now thought that eating disorders can be triggered by a multitude of factors, in combination, including those of a psychological, behavioural, social, or biological nature.

How Can Yoga Help With Eating Disorders

As with many conditions, eating orders can better be dealt with through a calm and focused mind. Depression and low self esteem are problems often associated with eating disorders, and Yoga can help with both.

It has been proven that Yoga can reduce depression, restoring a state of balance and well being in the individual. Also, there are different yoga practices which encourage heightened levels of self esteem, and promote a positive view of your own body. These are crucial factors with eating disorders, and it has been shown that the application of yoga can significantly increase recuperation and healing. Through the elimination of self judgment, yoga establishes a strong connection between mind and body. This, of course, is the natural state of wellness. By re-establishing this strong connection, mind and body will work in harmony to repair the damage.

Himalayan Goji Juice

Research has shown that many of the world's longest living people consume regular daily helpings of a tiny red fruit that may just be the world's most powerful anti-aging food — the goji berry. Since its discovery in the Himalayas, those who know of the remarkable goji berry are awed by its unmatched health-promoting powers.

Goji's four unique polysaccharides, or phytonutrient compounds, work in the body as directors and carriers of the instructions that cells use to communicate with each other. These polysaccharides are "Master Molecules" and command and control many of the body's most important defense systems.

Goji of Himalayan quality exhibits a balanced polysaccharide profile and a uniquely potent Spectral Signature. It is the true descendant of the original goji of legend.

Are You A Beginner Serious About Fitness?
By Marty Gallagher

I’ve been barraged with inquires asking how best to set up fitness programs. I thought it might be appropriate to go over the basics of how best to design an effective fitness program. Any sensible body renovation plan need include three elements: progressive resistance training, cardiovascular training and nutrition/diet. Hemingway once quipped, “Quality writing is not interior design, it’s architecture.”

And so it is with physical renovation, we aren’t rearranging the deck chairs on the cruise ship, we’re erecting massive column and moving mounds of earth. The three core elements need be practiced in an even, balanced way: better to do a bit of each then emphasize one element to the exclusion of the other two. The Sisyphus-like mistake fitness acolytes repeat over and over, to their eternal detriment, is to grab onto one of the three core elements and dive into it with a frenzy that lasts about three weeks. Then frustration, boredom and above all else, lack of results, causes the fitness Sisyphus to chuck the whole effort yet again. It doesn’t have to be this way. By structuring your fitness effort in a balanced way, tangible, irrefutable, unarguable results, measurable not imagined, can and will occur.

Have you ever wanted to write a book, fiction or non-fiction, but you just couldn't get it started, or didn't have the time, or couldn't think of a plot or had writer's block, or didn't think you had anything important to say, or didn't think you had the writing talent, or had something else that was stopping you?

Well, I've just discovered a web site that is specially designed to help you write your book faster than you ever thought possible. In fact, there's information here that will lead you to write your book in 14 days!!

Top Ten Reasons to Get Hooked on Weightlifting
By Garrett J. Braunreiter, GHF's Success Coach

Why do some men and women, in the effort to improve their fitness, still resist weightlifting? Here are some motivating ideas for building weight-room confidence and helping you understand why this method of exercise is so very important to your success…

1. Lift weights to lose fat: One of the biggest mistakes people make when starting an exercise and nutrition program is not including a weightlifting program with their cardiovascular exercise and low-fat eating regimen. This is unfortunate because when we cut calories without exercise, we can lose muscle as well as fat. And when you lose muscle, your body becomes a lot less efficient at burning fat. However, when you gain muscle, you can actually condition your body to burn fat more efficiently...24 hours a day!

7 Proven Ways to Resist the Urge to Smoke
by Arina Nikitina

When you decide to stop smoking the most difficult part is to resist the urges. It doesn't matter that each craving lasts only 3-5 minutes. It's still the whole 5 minutes to battle with your willpower! These 7 tips will help you to resist the urge to smoke one urge at a time.

1. Remind Yourself Why You Quit

Every time you experience a craving remind yourself why you quit. It's the excellent idea to take a blank index card and list all the reasons why you decided to quit smoking. List as many as you can, the more the better. If necessary, take the second index card. Carry them with you all the time. Every time you feel the urge to smoke take the index card and slowly read all your reasons why you decided to stop. After you finish reading your urge will pass! (If not, read them one more time or come up with more reasons.)

What Is "M-Power"?

Briefly, M-Power, like "Fit Over 40", is not just about working out...in fact, just the opposite. It's been called "Tony Robbins meets Bill Phillips" by a lot of people, but with even more content and in-depth strategies.

"M"-Power stands for "Mind. Meals. Muscle. Motion." The "Four Ms", and in that order.

Mind is the focus, which is one of the reasons I wanted to write you personally. This is life development...not just body development. Fitness is merely one of the platforms covered, and the M-Power philosophy is one that states that all success begins and depends on the physical.

Without the body to enjoy the power and results these principles deliver, people end out of balance and often physically unable to enjoy their success. The Mind segments teach the principles of mastery, attraction, Core elements, integral theory, and more to ensure life balance and 'real' success.

Meals and Muscle is where the fitness and health aspects are covered. Whether you're a bodybuilder or a housewife wanting to discard fat, these are all the strategies you'll ever need to know.

Motion is more than just "cardio": motion is LIFE motion. Taking ACTION. This is what I call "Responsibility-based Living", and it's covered in detail.

Lastly, there are 12 "M-Powering Conversations": interviews with professionals and experts in the field of weight loss, finance, mental empowerment and personal relationships.

All-in-all, there are 48 weeks of M-Power Audios: literally a year-long investment in a life worth living. These audios are studio-quality, matched only by the content of each of the 20-40 minute audios. These audios can be streamed from the site in real-time and/or downloaded for MP3 players. It's quite user-friendly.

BMI Calculator Results
By David McCormick

BMI, Body Mass Index, is the most popular and simple way that health professionals use to determine if you are a healthy weight. This article concerns how to interpret your results.

SummaryBody Mass Index:
<18: Underweight
>25: Overweight
>30: Obese

Calculate Yourself

The calculation is simple, you can do it on a regular calculator. All you need to know is your height and weight. If you want to use metric measurements, take your weight in kilograms and divide it by your height in meters squared. If you use inches and pounds instead, you need to multiply the result by 703 to get an equivalent result. I am 6' tall and I weigh 180 lbs. 180/(72 x 72) x 703 = 24.4

Golf Workouts Can Quickly Add Yards To Your Drives
by Mike Pedersen

I’m sure by now you’ve heard most of the professional players both men and women actively participate in golf workouts. It’s no secret. But why then do most amateur golfers ignore this? How Strong Are You? The Answer May Surprise You
By Gregg Gillies

Do you know the answer to this question? Before you answer, let me tell you, I'm not asking how much you can bench, squat or deadlift. I want to know how strong you are, not how much you can lift. What do I mean by that? Knowing the answer could dramatically ramp up your progress.

Getting results from your weight training, cardio, or nutrition program takes a lot of strength. It also takes a unique kind of strength. I am talking about your mental muscle. If you don't have the mental strength to get up early and hit the gym, eat the right meal, resist all the temptations that can derail you, etc. then it doesn't matter how much you can lift.

So, what I mean by the question 'how strong are you?' is a little different. I want to know you strong your determination is. I want to know about your level of resolve when you face adversity. Do you quit when the weight feels heavy?

Mental strength will help you reach your physical potential. In fact, it will help you be successful in anything you do, from weight training and fat loss, to family and career goal.

Here are some unique ways to physically test your mental strength.

These are some of my favorite two minute drills. You've never realized how long two minutes is until you try these. And, once you do, you'll know a lot about yourself and your mental strength.
